Shamahy – Gobustan

Mud volcano Kichik Maraza

Large mud volcano situated atop of 600 m absolute height elevation on the right side of Baku-Shamakhy highway, 80 km west off Baku. West and south slopes of the hill are quite steep, whereas north and east ones are gentle. Shallow ravines abut on the slopes. The crater field of volcano is rather extensive with numerous cones and gryphons which height ranges from 0.5 -14m, some of them seeps abundant gas, water and mud with iridescent oil films.
Mud volcano Kichik Maraza does not usually erupt frequently. Its first eruption was recorded in 1848, and the last one in 1986.

Although, mud volcano appears to be quite active gryphonning: squeezing a lot of curative mud to the surface.
